Physiklaban 2011

UP won baby!

We (org) really crawled our way to get our tasks for this competition completed. We have a flaky Acad Comm, which irritates each time I think about how bad things are in that corner of our org. Anyway, we got everything over and done with. I don't even care how dreadful EJ thinks of our questions, I'm just happy we made it through and that we didn't have to use our very limited clincher questions.

Overall, I think the event was a success~ attendance was great. There were little kinks but were easily resolved. As the emcees would say, "Good job!"

I hope the younger members realize how important the external roles and relations of our org are.
I'm not so down into psychology, it's a very subjective and qualitative field that I don't feel that much comfortable towards its findings. But of course, most of the time we don't like what we don't understand or what we're not familiar with. This is to say that I think Ma'am Chey (tama ba spelling?) made me rethink my notion of psychology. While it is still unquantifiable (at least from where I stand, physics) I find the fields and issues we had in class interesting as well as mind-blowing, in forms of ideas I've never even thought of before. Just last meeting while we were discussing about human nature a very staggering question was raised: if our consciousness and rationality were the basis for our being human, what about the mentally ill? Nawalan ako ng prinsipyong pinanghahawakan, so to speak.

Moments like that make me think how great a class I'm attending is. Then there's the big teacher factor and a good pinch of overall class atmosphere that makes you want to recommend the class to everyone you meet. I am so thankful for the RGEP right now, for giving me that chance to pick my GEs and enlist in classes like my Soc Sci 1 under Ms. Billedo.

Quite sadly, I also realized that I used to relish in physics this much when I'm introduced into new subjects. I must admit that I did enjoy solving 112 or 141 problems even, though I often had a hard time. Now, I don't know if because of senioritis or just plain lack of interest that I don't feel that way anymore. Of course, I still like discovering things in my research work but I don't really remember feeling that elated to learn how lasers work when I took a class about them last semester.

This is why I need to get a job or whatever after graduation, I need a break from school and time to realize if I do want to come back for a higher degree. Yuh, that higher degree in physics. Or if not, find out what I want to study further.

Think and wonder, wonder and think.

I'm going nuts and kind of sleep deprived (though I did sleep around 5-6 hours before my bedtime) thinking about how my org is lately.

I'm pretty serious in presenting (as in with slides) some ideas, things, whatevers next GA. I'd like to thank Dr. Seuss and his precious insights, many of which I've included in my slides.

Since I'll be talking to kids, maybe they'll understand me from that viewpoint. Haha. Burn.

Post Manuscript Submission Weekend

Last Friday I submitted my thesis manuscript. *wohoooooooooo* Had dinner with friends at Flaming Wings and then went to the fair, and waited patiently for Jeff to usher us in. Haha cheap. But it was paid off with a Sugarfree performance, so it's fine.

Saturday was kinda mum. I didn't get to see Ate Ekkay's defense, but I still went to UP to get my things. I wanted a froyo treat but I felt soooo tired when I was on my way home, good thing a new DQ stall has opened near the entrance of SM North so I grabbed a goodie there.

Today,  my family and I went to Greenhills. Bea bought a Blackberry, and we sifted through the stalls a bit. We were supposed to grab lunch at Thai Dara but a couple of things didn't go as initially expected so we just had our meal at the shopping complex. Nonetheless we had our 'food trip fix' during dinner at Ye Dang. It's a Korean restaurant at Ortigas, and it's really good. :)

I used my phone's camera and I was playing with different effects in Vignette, so disregard the play of colors, contrast and so on in shots.

Inaaaaaa

Grilling!

I'm sorry but I really forgot to take note of the names of the dishes we had, so I'll just describe them. To start, they serve several side dishes that also kinda serve as appetizers while your meals are prepared. I particularly liked the tofu sort of kimchi side, it was spicy but not too hot and the tofu was silky but well done. We had pork and beef strips as well as beef spareribs for grilling, which was done by a gracious staff. Then we also had a bibimbap rice mix, I think, and a glass noodle dish that was simply divine.  While I may not have memorized the dishes' names, it's fair to say we had a really good dinner and that's not even factoring in their excellent service. Thumbs up talaga.

Tofu + Lovely kind of spicy = <3

Glass noodle dish. Suuper sarap.

Controversial plain rice. It's good!

Pineapple, on the house.

After dinner we headed to a Korean grocery shop a couple of doors down from the restaurant for some ice cream. Of course we just deduced the exact flavors of our choices, because most of the terms were in Korean. I thought my pick was a pistachio and berry kind of mix but the green part was actually mochi and the ice cream part I never got to fully understand the flavor, but it tasted okay and had walnuts.

We want ice cream!

Mmm.

Mochi covered ice cream :)

I still feel full actually.

So how was your weekend?

Let me count the ways..

All I've been doing lately is finishing my manuscript, and I've been postponing some things I should also take care of or do. Actually, org things mostly. I am super AWOL. I have valid reasons, but somehow I feel guilty. I did take the responsibility.

At the same time I want to do so many things. One thing I remembered I should be doing is catching up on my reading for the TBR Pile Challenge. I originally wanted to proceed with To Kill A Mockingbird but I think I'll read some of the more "pop" books first for lighter reading. I'm so eager to do so many things after submitting but I think it's just the stress talking. But really, I feel like I should really party hard or something after this feat.

Come to think of it, this is technically a Valentine's Day post. So, let's end on a sort of related note. :p

During our RM earlier, my adviser asked me, "Mage-MS ka ba?"

To which I replied, a smile and "Hindi ko pa po alam."

Sowwww.

Gagawin ko ang lahat pati ang thesis mo!

Talaga? HAHAHAHA

This is actually a long running joke at NIP, where the version's like "Gagawin ko ang lahat wag lang ang thesis mo." Just came into my mind while stuck in my math, deriving something I should've finished a long time ago. *sigh*

And just because I'm so surprised and elated that Eheads have their own VEVO channel, here's another vid taken from their 08 concert at The Fort, the concert Tito Bobby and I attended! :)

Tense

As in. I am so tense because of STS. I didn't know Dr. Nemenzo counts a late as an absence right away. So, I am completely maxed out of allowed absences! But it does help that Dr. Nemenzo kindly and promptly answered my emails regarding what I thought was bad math. I am less tense at least.

Gah.

Tricia, from now on, arrive at VLC always before 11:30am.

Earrings matter.

My coils failed me today. No new data :(
Good thing Ina has a game on Sat at 2pm, meaning we'd have to go home to the province later as planned so I can still work. Wooh. Thesis it.

Weird enough, a "the dog ate my homework" moment happened last night. Bea and I were in the sort of study nook here in the house and suddenly the internet went off and I saw the router and the broadband go off. Ayun, no current. Low voltage or short circuit, I don't really know. Thank god the other outlets are working just fine and we have extension cord to up the internet again.
